Because of the viewpoint that the well-being of the mother is paramount, infanticide has become an option for mothers who give birth but still struggle with some of the same issues that prompt women to consider abortion.
Lifelines #8: Introduction to Infanticide
June 20, 2025
Greetings!
Who would ever affirm, much less advocate for, the killing of a tiny baby?
In January of 2025, bills were introduced in both the U.S. House (Actions - H.R.21 - 119th Congress (2025-2026): Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act | Congress.gov | Library of Congress) and U.S. Senate (S.6 - 119th Congress (2025-2026): Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act | Congress.gov | Library of Congress) to protect the lives of infants born alive after an abortion or abortion attempt. While H.R.21, the House bill, passed and was sent to the Senate, unfortunately, the Senate bill, S.6, failed to receive cloture and was effectively killed. A 3/5 majority of Senate members would have had to vote in favor of cloture for the bill to progress. The vote was divided along party lines, except for Senator Bill Haggerty (R-TN), who refrained from voting.
In this brief interview, Lila Rose, pro-life advocate, gives her reaction to a similar vote by the Senate when the same bill was attempted two years ago. This time, however, no democrats voted for the bill. Lila Rose Responds To Pro-Infanticide Democrats Voting Against Abortion Survivors Protection Act | Live Action
Amazingly, in opposition to the bills, a group of "medical and health professional organizations" presented a letter to Congress. They claim that "[The bill] injects politicians into the patient-provider relationship, disregarding health care professionals’ training and clinical judgment and undermining their ability to determine the best course of action with their patients." Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act Opposition Letter
Seeking to explain such opposition, the Bioethics Observatory, Catholic University of Valencia states:
The debate on the perception of fetal pain and the protection of babies born alive after an abortion is intertwined with the controversial positions of the philosopher Peter Singer. Known for his utilitarian approach, he has defended infanticide in cases of severe disability, arguing that the life of a newborn does not have the same value as that of a conscious adult....The current permissiveness towards infanticide in the case of babies who survive attempted abortions shows in a heartbreaking way the sinister face of abortion. Letting a neonate who has survived an attempted abortion die is equivalent to a double murder, inappropriate for those who claim for themselves the respect for their rights that they deny to others.
US Senate rejects bill to protect babies who survive abortions
Yes, support for infanticide is alive and well in the United States of America. May God open our eyes!
Praying for more people to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves,

"In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor;
let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised.
For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul,
and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the LORD.
In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him;
all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”
He sits in ambush in the villages;
in hiding places he murders the innocent."
Psalm 10:2-4, 8 ESV
